There are two principal reasons for replacing missing teeth.
The first and most obvious is your appearance.
The second is that the gap left by a missing tooth or teeth can place greater strain on the teeth at either side. A gap can also affect your "bite" as the teeth next to the space can lean into the gap and alter the way the upper and lower teeth bit together. This can then lead to food getting trapped in the gap(s) which causes decay and gum disease.
The way in which missing teeth are replaced depends on:
- The number of teeth missing
- Where they are in the mouth
- The condition of the remaining teeth and gums
There are three main ways to replace the missing teeth - partial dentures , bridges and dental implants.
Dental Implants
Dental Implants are the modern, sophisticated solution to missing teeth. They are the permanent answer for people who are:
- Unhappy with their appearance because of a missing front tooth
- Suffering eating or other problems caused by several missing teeth
- Experiencing problems with dentures
A Dental Implant consists of two main parts:
- An artificial titanium root placed in the bone to replace the missing roots of a natural tooth
- An artificial crown, bridge or denture which screws onto the new titanium root
The preparation and fitting of an implant requires the skill of a clinician experienced in oral surgery and the Restorative Dental Surgeon. Working alongside our colleagues in Cedar Clinic, we are pleased to offer our patients a complete implant service from initial assessment to completion.
Once fitted, the implant looks like and is every bit as permanent and functional as a natural tooth.
There is no charge for an initial implant consultation.
